US tells Iran ‘all options open’ as UN debate heats up over protest killings

The United States has issued a fresh warning to Iran, stating that “all options are on the table,” during a tense face-off at the United Nations Security Council, even as President Donald Trump hinted at a possible de-escalation in the crisis. The warning came amid mounting global concern over Iran’s crackdown on nationwide protests, which activists claim has left at least 2,637 people dead.
After weeks of escalating tensions, US and Iranian officials confronted each other at the Security Council on Thursday. While President Trump suggested that the violence in Iran appeared to be easing, Washington’s envoy adopted a hard line, renewing threats against Tehran over the alleged killing of protesters.
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said the administration would not shy away from decisive action. “President Trump is a man of action, not endless talk like we see at the United Nations,” Waltz said, adding that the Iranian leadership should clearly understand that “all options are on the table to stop the slaughter.”
The US was joined by Iranian dissidents at the meeting, who strongly criticised the government’s response to the protests, as the standoff between Washington and Tehran continues to draw intense international attention.
