BPL 2025–26 to resume as Bangladesh cricketers end boycott after talks

BPL 2025–26 to resume as Bangladesh cricketers end boycott after talks.
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025–26 is set to resume after Bangladesh cricketers called off their boycott following talks between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB). The decision comes a day after players refused to take the field in protest against controversial remarks made by BCB director Nazmul Islam.
The issue was resolved after a tripartite meeting, with players agreeing to return to action from Friday. As a result, minor changes have been made to the tournament schedule.
The boycott was triggered by Nazmul Islam’s comments, including his remarks targeting former captain Tamim Iqbal and statements suggesting that players were not entitled to compensation if they missed major tournaments. The remarks drew sharp criticism from players, who demanded his removal from the BCB.
While the BCB relieved Nazmul of his role as head of the finance committee, he continues as a board director. Despite this, cricketers decided to withdraw the boycott and resume participation in the league.
Matches scheduled for January 15, 2026, will now be played on January 16, while fixtures originally set for January 16 and 17 have been pushed back by a day. The Eliminator and Qualifier 1, earlier scheduled for January 19, will now take place on January 20.
