Political Leaders Condemn Gun Attack on Farooq Abdullah; Mehbooba Mufti, Sajad Lone, Aga Ruhullah React
Senior political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday strongly condemned the gun attack on former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, expressing shock over the incident and calling for strict action against those responsible.
Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, Member of Parliament from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, along with Sajad Lone, chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference, strongly condemned the attack and described it as deeply disturbing. They said violence against political leaders is unacceptable and urged authorities to ensure the safety of public representatives.
Former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the incident, expressing concern over the security lapse and calling for a thorough investigation.
The 88-year-old Abdullah reportedly had a narrow escape when a gunman allegedly opened fire at him from behind while he was leaving a marriage function at Greater Kailash on the outskirts of Jammu on Wednesday night.
Police later arrested the accused, identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, a 63-year-old resident of Purani Mandi in Jammu. During questioning, he allegedly told investigators that he had been waiting for an opportunity to target Abdullah for nearly two decades.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident while security around senior political leaders in the region has been further tightened.
