Farooq Abdullah Escapes Assassination Bid in Jammu; Omar Abdullah Credits Security Team

Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday said his father and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah narrowly escaped a possible assassination attempt during a gunshot incident at a function in Jammu.
According to Omar Abdullah, the situation could have turned tragic, but the swift action of the close protection team prevented a major incident. He said a man carrying a loaded pistol managed to reach very close to Farooq Abdullah and fired a shot.
In a post on X, Omar wrote that his father had a “very close shave,” adding that the available details are still limited as investigations continue.
“Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave. A man with a loaded pistol managed to get within point-blank range and fire a shot. It was the close protection team that quickly deflected the shot and ensured the attempt failed,” he stated.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while security around senior political leaders in the region has been further tightened.
