India has 25 days of crude oil reserve, adequate petrol and diesel stocks: Govt Sources
Government sources on Tuesday said that India currently has sufficient reserves of crude oil and petroleum products to meet national demand for nearly 50 days. According to officials, the country holds crude oil reserves for about 25 days and an additional 25 days’ stock of refined fuels such as petrol and diesel.
Sources said the country is in a comfortable position regarding energy security and supply. They added that the existing reserves ensure stability in case of temporary disruptions in global oil markets.
Officials also clarified that the 25-day crude oil reserve figure does not include the country’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR), which are maintained for emergencies. If those reserves are included, India’s total crude oil availability would extend beyond the currently stated period.
The assurance comes amid global concerns over energy supply disruptions and rising geopolitical tensions affecting international oil routes.
