Iran security chief Ali Larijani rules out talks with us amid escalating tensions

Amid rising tensions in West Asia following the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in US-Israeli strikes, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani on Monday firmly denied any plans to negotiate with the United States.
His remarks came in response to a media report suggesting that Tehran was considering resuming indirect talks with Washington through Oman. Citing the Wall Street Journal, Al Jazeera had reported that Larijani had proposed restarting discussions via Omani intermediaries. However, Larijani rejected the claim and dismissed the speculation.
In a strongly worded statement, he also criticised US President Donald Trump, accusing him of destabilising the region and prioritising Israel’s interests over America’s own. Larijani asserted that Iran did not initiate the conflict and said the country’s armed forces were acting in self-defence.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state media reported that the Provisional Leadership Council convened its second meeting in the presence of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei and senior cleric Alireza Arafi. The interim council was formed after the deaths of Khamenei and several top security officials and will govern until a new supreme leader is appointed.
According to Iranian state media, over 200 people have been killed across multiple provinces in the ongoing attacks.
