India crush Pakistan by 61 runs, enter Super Eight in style

Defending champions India delivered a commanding performance against Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup, sealing a comprehensive 61-run victory at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday (February 15, 2026).
With rain forecasts failing to dampen the atmosphere, the high-voltage Group A clash lived up to expectations as India continued their dominant run in the tournament.
Riding on a powerful 77 from Ishan Kishan, India posted a competitive 175 for 7. The aggressive left-hander set the tone early, taking on the Pakistani bowlers with fearless stroke play and ensuring momentum stayed firmly with his side.
Leading from the front, skipper Suryakumar Yadav marshalled his resources effectively as India’s bowling attack dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup. The chase never truly took off, with Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, and captain Salman Ali Agha dismissed with just 13 runs on the board.
Hardik Pandya struck early and also contributed in the field, while Jasprit Bumrah picked up two crucial wickets to derail Pakistan’s innings.
The slide continued when Babar Azam was bowled by Axar Patel, further tightening India’s grip on the contest. Usman Khan attempted resistance with some clean hitting down the ground, but once he fell — stumped smartly by Kishan off Axar’s bowling — Pakistan’s hopes faded.
Eventually bundled out for 114 in 18 overs, Pakistan had no answers to India’s all-round brilliance.
With this emphatic victory, India not only maintained their unbeaten streak but also officially secured qualification for the Super Eight stage, reaffirming their status as tournament favourites.
