India Sees Opportunity, Not Fear, in AI: PM Modi at India AI Impact Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for democratising artificial intelligence and ensuring it becomes a tool for inclusion and empowerment, asserting that India sees immense opportunity and a blueprint for the future in AI.
Addressing the India AI Impact Summit, Modi said AI should not reduce humans to mere data points and stressed the need to balance innovation with responsibility. “We have to give an open sky to AI, but at the same time we have to keep the reins in our hands,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that India believes AI will truly benefit the world only when it is shared openly. He advocated for open codes, enabling young innovators across the globe to improve and build upon AI systems. “Some countries believe AI should be developed in a confidential and closed manner. But India is different. We believe AI will serve the good of the world when it is shared and its codes are open,” he stated.
Modi said AI will make systems smarter, more efficient and impactful, while opening new avenues for creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and the creation of emerging industries.
Highlighting India’s demographic strength and technological capabilities, he noted that the country represents one-sixth of humanity, has the world’s largest young population and one of the biggest pools of tech talent.
