The Lok Sabha will on Monday take up discussion on the President’s Address, with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal set to move the motion of thanks for President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament on January 28.
The House has allotted 18 hours for the debate, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to reply on February 4. The Lok Sabha will meet at 11 am with a packed legislative agenda for the day.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to reply to the discussion on February 11. During an all-party meeting held on January 27, opposition parties demanded debates on several key issues, including restoration of MGNREGA, the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, and the UGC-related controversy.
The Budget Session of Parliament will have 30 sittings spread over 65 days and will conclude on April 2. Both Houses will adjourn for a recess on February 13 and reconvene on March 9 to allow Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants of various ministries and departments.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has already presented the Union Budget 2026–27 in the Lok Sabha, marking her ninth consecutive budget. She said the budget is driven by “Yuvashakti” and guided by “three kartavyas.”
The budget proposes seven high-speed rail corridors, new dedicated freight corridors, and the operationalisation of 20 national waterways over the next five years. It also outlines a major push for environmentally sustainable passenger transport, aimed at reducing travel time, cutting emissions, and promoting balanced regional development.
