Budget 2026–27 charts path to $5 trillion economy milestone: LG
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday hailed the Union Budget 2026–27 as a pragmatic and forward-looking roadmap aimed at accelerating economic growth, strengthening infrastructure, and steering India toward a $5 trillion economy in the coming years.
Describing the budget as a balanced fiscal strategy, the Lieutenant Governor said it successfully aligns growth objectives with social welfare commitments. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for initiatives such as ecologically sustainable mountain trails in Jammu and Kashmir, which are expected to boost tourism and generate new employment opportunities in the region.
Sinha said the budget focuses on economic acceleration, infrastructure development, and manufacturing across seven strategic sectors, while continuing strong support for social welfare. He noted that renewed momentum under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0 and the creation of specialised rare earth zones would reduce import dependence and strengthen India’s industrial base.
Highlighting the importance of emerging technologies, the Lieutenant Governor said the emphasis on artificial intelligence, job creation, and service sector growth would enhance India’s competitiveness across economic sectors.
He added that Budget 2026–27 reflects an ambitious vision to achieve developed economy status within two decades and promises significant empowerment for youth, women, and farmers. With manufacturing, MSMEs, healthcare, infrastructure, urban development, electronics, and supply chains at its core, the budget aims to expand domestic production and create large-scale employment opportunities.
