CM Omar Abdullah Speaks to EAM Jaishankar on Iran Situation, Seeks Safety of J&K Nationals
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said he spoke to External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar regarding the evolving situation in Iran and the measures being planned to safeguard Indian nationals, particularly those from Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said that the External Affairs Minister shared his assessment of the ground situation in Iran and briefed him on the steps being worked out by the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safety of people stranded there.
“I am grateful for his assurance that all possible steps will be taken to safeguard the interests and lives of students and other people from Jammu and Kashmir who are presently in Iran,” Omar Abdullah said.
The development comes amid growing concerns over the safety of Indian students, including a large number from Jammu and Kashmir, studying in Iran as unrest continues in the country.
