Budget, Assembly schedule discussed as JKLA Speaker meets CM Omar

Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Thursday met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to discuss key issues related to the upcoming budget session, including the schedule for the budget presentation and other legislative business, sources said.
According to sources, the meeting focused on finalising the calendar for the budget session, which is expected to be announced soon.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance portfolio, is likely to present the budget between February 5 and February 7, following the presentation of the Union Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1. Jammu and Kashmir’s budget is largely dependent on Central allocations.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said the budget session would be conducted in two phases. He added that the budget is expected to be passed during the first phase, while the remaining legislative business would be taken up in the second phase.
On the possibility of holding double sittings, the Speaker said the decision would depend on the volume of business before the House. “If there is more business and time is limited, we can opt for double sittings,” he said.
