Schools reopen across Kashmir Valley after three-month winter break
Educational institutions across the Kashmir Valley resumed classes on Monday as schools reopened after a long winter vacation of nearly three months. Students from Classes 1 to 8 returned to their classrooms, marking the restart of academic activities in the region.
Several schools welcomed students in a cheerful manner, with teachers greeting children at the gates, offering flowers and distributing chocolates and toffees to mark the first day back. The reopening brought renewed activity around school premises as students gathered for morning assemblies and regular lessons.
School authorities said all arrangements had been made in advance to ensure a smooth resumption of classes. Teachers also noted that the first few days would focus on helping students readjust to classroom routines and revising earlier lessons before continuing with the syllabus.
The winter break is observed annually in Kashmir due to extreme weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures that disrupt normal life during the season.
Parents expressed relief at the reopening of schools, saying that returning to classrooms would help children regain academic discipline after the long holiday.
Earlier, schools had remained closed until March 7 after authorities extended the shutdown due to protests following the killing of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader. Demonstrations were reported in several areas, particularly in localities with a significant Shia population.
Students also expressed excitement about returning to school after the long break. Many said they were happy to meet their friends and teachers again and shared stories about how they spent their winter holidays.
