First batch of students, pilgrims arrive from Iran amid unrest concerns

Those who returned said the ground situation in Iran was far less alarming than portrayed by international media reports. Many attributed the heightened sense of concern to prolonged internet shutdowns, which severely restricted communication with families back home.
“Because of the internet blackout, we could not stay in touch with our families, which created panic,” several students said, adding that daily life in most areas remained largely normal.
The group mainly comprised university students and pilgrims who had been visiting religious centres in Qom and Mashhad. Authorities said further arrivals are expected as evacuation and facilitation efforts continue.
