Two Army porters found dead after slipping into nallah in Upper Gulmarg
The bodies of two Army porters who had slipped into a nallah near the Upper Gulmarg area of Baramulla district were recovered after an overnight search operation, officials said on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Layakat Ahmad Deedard (27), son of Ghulam Mohammad Deedard of Masjid Aagan Chandoosa, and Ishfaq Ahmad Khatana (33), son of Jamal-ud-Din Khatana of Pachar Chandoosa in Baramulla district.
Officials said the incident took place on Thursday when the porters were heading towards Anita Post, a forward area that remains inaccessible during winter due to heavy snowfall. While crossing a snow-covered and slippery stretch, both men lost their balance and fell into the nallah.
Despite harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain, the Army and local rescue teams immediately launched a search operation. After sustained efforts through the night, the bodies were recovered.
Family members of the deceased confirmed to KNS that the bodies were retrieved following the overnight operation. Further legal and administrative formalities are underway, officials added.
