A fresh incident of alleged harassment involving Kashmiri shawl sellers has been reported from Haryana\u2019s Yamunanagar district, adding to a series of similar cases reported in the state in recent weeks, according to sources.
The incident reportedly occurred in Kalawad village under the Chhappar police station area, where two Kashmiri youths engaged in seasonal trade were allegedly stopped, questioned about their identity, and subjected to objectionable remarks by a group of local youths. Sources said the situation escalated when the vendors were allegedly pressured to raise religious slogans.
The victims have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Khwaja and Imtiyaz Ahmad, residents of Kashmir, who were moving from village to village selling shawls and blankets. The incident reportedly took place on Monday afternoon as they entered Kalawad village.
A video of the confrontation later surfaced on social media, triggering widespread concern. In the footage, one of the alleged accused can be heard repeatedly pressuring the vendors to chant slogans such as \u201cJai Shri Ram\u201d and \u201cBharat Mata Ki Jai.\u201d The video also reportedly captures threats warning the vendors not to return to the village, while the Kashmiri youths are heard asserting their Indian identity and refusing to comply, which further heightened tensions.
