In a rare archaeological find, a three-headed sculpture of Lord Vishnu, which dates back to the 9th century, was found in the Jhelum river during the extraction of sand in South Kashmir\u2019s Pulwama district, officials said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Some labourers recovered the sculpture and handed it over to the Kakapura police station officials.<\/p>\n

After completing legal formalities, the sculpture was handed over to the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n

The officials said that the finely carved and well-dressed sculpture demonstrates the sculptural style used at Avantipora during the 9th century AD.<\/p>\n

They said the sculpture is now housed in SPS Museum, Srinagar, for further studies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
